The Top of the Net
by Mark Larson
I’ve Never seen the top of the net.
It mocks me, taunts me as I set
the ball for others to break its height.
It bounds my dreams. Sets my sight.
I can not touch it or break its plane,
but I know where it is, just the same.
It’s the barrier which keeps me from my goal.
It urges me on. It defines my soul.
Sadly, my stature keeps me bound.
Although, time to time I have glimpsed above, it’s supporting my teammates which I most love. My goals remain the same, never lowered, and yet, now I see the top of the net.
